20+ Easy Breakfast Ideas for Kids

Published: Nov 5, 2022 · Modified: Jan 7, 2023 by Kristi · This post may contain affiliate links

Easy, nourishing, and so delicious, breakfast has never tasted so good. Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, yet it's often the meal given the least attention to.

Here you will find a variety of easy breakfast recipes that your whole family will enjoy!

Photo collage with six photos, two photos in each of three rows. Apple Oatmeal Bake with cranberries, pumpkin waffles drizzled with maple syrup, strawberry peanut butter smoothie with one frozen strawberry on top and a red and white striped straw, orange carrot oatmilk smoothie with sliced orange in the background, peanut butter oat balls with chocolate chips, and banana carrot muffins stacked with a fresh carrot to the left.

Start the day off right by serving these surprisingly easy breakfast ideas to your kids (and you!). Many of these recipes are easily doubled, so you can have breakfast set for days.

Tips for Serving Breakfast on Busy Mornings

Having breakfast options available that are quick and easy are key to ensuring your teen will eat before heading out the door. Having breakfast options for them to grab and enjoy cold (like Mango Overnight Oats) or that they can easily heat up themselves, (like Blueberry Pancakes, Apple Oatmeal Bake, or Pumpkin Waffles) will save you time on busy mornings.

For your piece of mind, try making more than you think they'll eat at one meal so you can refrigerate or freeze the rest for later in the week. Afterall, there's nothing like spending time making pancakes only for everything to vanish in one sitting;)

For this reason, I always try to double or triple batch pancakes and waffles and make enough baked oatmeal so that I have enough left over.

I also try to keep eggs ('as is' to scramble quickly as well as hard boiled) and milk on hand because they are easy protein sources and can be served with pretty much anything.

And as for smoothies and smoothie bowls, consider teaching your teens how to make these themselves. It will give them freedom in the kitchen and take something off of your 'to do' list in the morning.

    Questions You May Have

    Can you freeze pancakes?

Yes! I freeze pancakes all the time. Let them cool to room temperature and then place in a freezer-safe resealable bag. To make frozen pancakes easy to separate, place a piece of parchment paper between each pancake before freezing. I don't always use parchment paper, but it is recommended for ease of use.

    What makes a healthy breakfast?

First, remember that the word "healthy" means something different to everyone. Typically, it's best to choose a breakfast that includes whole grains, protein, and fruits or vegetables. Try to limit the amount of added sugar.

    Why do kids need breakfast?

Eating breakfast give kids energy for growth and movement throughout the day. Additionally, breakfast has been associated with better diet quality and improved academic performance.
