Quick & easy Air Fryer Apple Slices made with sweet, crisp apples in 6 minutes! A healthy snack with no added sugar!

This recipe has been updated with new photos and an improved layout. While it may look like it's one of my new recipes, I can assure you that it's the same tasty air fryer apple slices recipe I've been making for years. 🙂
Air frying apple slices has never been easier! Yes, I tried to complicate this recipe by adding lemon juice, sugar, and using thicker apple slices... but they took longer to cook and didn't turn out any better (in fact, air frying thicker sliced apples was rather complicated). 😅
It turns out that when you slice apples super thin and stick them in the air fryer for 6 minutes, they soften just enough to make them easier to eat... or, I should say, devour!
To clarify, my youngest daughter and her friend did enjoy them better with a little sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar, so I've added those as optional ingredients. 🤷♀️
And if you are looking for more easy ways to use up apples, you've got to make my apple oatmeal bake and homemade apple sauce recipes. Perfect fall flavors for the whole family!

Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Easy Recipe Since an air fryer is essentially a mini convection oven, it cooks food in less time. Plus, there is no need to peel the apples when air frying them. And if your air fryer is preheated, these apple slices will be done in only 4-5 minutes!
- Simple Ingredients The only ingredient is apples! Of course, you could always sprinkle a small amount of a cinnamon and sugar mixture or just ground cinnamon on them before air frying, but it's not necessary.
- Kid-Approved When I first took these air-fried apples out of my air fryer and thought they could use a little longer to cook, my daughter walked by and ate the whole bowl. Clearly, they were perfect as is ... and perfect for the whole family because I wanted more, too! 😍
- No Added Sugar Similar to roasting peaches, if you use sweet apples to make air fryer apple slices, there is no need to add sugar of any kind.
Apples - The Only Ingredient!
- Apples are a great source of fiber, vitamin C, and potassium. They are also a rich source of phytochemicals which have been linked to reduced risk of various diseases.
- Apples have varying levels of sweetness, depending on the variety. Honey Crisp apples, Pink Lady apples, Golden Delicious apples, and Fuji apples work very well for this recipe. If you only have granny smith apples, you may want to consider sprinkling a small amount of brown sugar or a cinnamon and sugar mixture on them before air frying.
- Keeping the skins on the apples optimizes the amounts of fiber and vitamin. Leaving skins on also helps to achieve the best texture.
Kitchen Tools Needed
- Air fryer Air fryers save so much time because they heat up super-fast and reduce cooking time. I use the Cuisinart Digital Toaster Oven Air Fryer because it works as a toaster, oven, and air fryer. Love it!
- Mandolin Slices certain foods, including apples, into very thin and uniform sizes. I really thought I would be able to slice apples thin enough by hand to make these and I was not successful. I use a simple hand-held mandolin slicer.
Step-by-Step Instructions

Here’s a quick overview of the steps to make these apple slices. For the full list of ingredients and instructions, scroll down to the recipe card.
- Use a mandolin to slice an apple into very thin, uniform slices. I set my mandolin slicer to the #2 setting which slices the apple in 2.5 mm slices.
- Lay the apple slices in a single layer on a baking basket fit for your air fryer then air fry at 325 degrees for 6 minutes. Some overlap is okay.
Helpful Tips
- These are not crispy apple chips, nor do they taste like the filling of an apple pie (unless you add a sprinkle of cinnamon;).
- While you can use any kind of apple to make this recipe, I recommend using a sweet apple.
- Using a mandolin is key for getting apple slices thin enough for this recipe.
- If you use a granny smith apple, I recommend sprinkling a little bit of a cinnamon and sugar mixture on the apple slices before placing them in an air fryer.
- Optional: use an apple corer to remove the stem and core of the apple before slicing it.
- Slight overlap of the apple slices is okay. The slices that overlap will stick together.
- Coat your air fryer basket with a high heat oil, like avocado oil, to prevent food from sticking. It’s best to use a good quality oil mister or use a silicone basting brush to brush oil on to the air fryer basket to prevent food from sticking. Avoid aerosol non-stick sprays.
- Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for how to properly and safely use your air fryer.
- I use a Cuisinart Digital AirFryer Toaster Oven. Different air fryers might require small adjustments in temperature and/or cook time.
Questions You May Have
A vegetable peeler or cheese plane are the best alternatives to a mandoline. Whichever tool you use, be careful because blades are sharp!
If your kids prefer the texture of an actual apple chip, air fry the apple slices for an additional 2 minutes or until they reach your desired consistency.
It depends on the fruit. I have air fried sliced peaches and apples, but I wouldn't air fry berries.
